16-19 Study Programme

Sixth form students typically study a programme of three Level 3 qualifications. Students can choose from a range of A Level and applied courses, allowing them to follow a pathway that matches their interests, strengths and future aspirations.

Each subject is allocated dedicated 5 hours teaching time each week and is supported by a programme of independent study. Students are expected to undertake additional reading, research, coursework and examination preparation outside of lessons. Dedicated study facilities, ICT resources and supervised study spaces are available to support independent learning and academic success.

All students participate in a programme of personal development, careers education and enrichment activities. This includes PSHE, careers guidance, guest speakers, leadership opportunities, volunteering, university and apprenticeship preparation, and activities designed to support students' wellbeing and personal growth.

Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Mathematics continue to study these subjects as part of their programme until they achieve the required standard.

Students are provided with opportunities to develop their employability skills through engagement with employers, higher education providers, work-related learning and work experience opportunities where appropriate. Additional opportunities are available through programmes such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Aspire, educational visits and a range of enrichment activities.

Throughout their time in the Sixth Form, students receive guidance and support to help them progress successfully to higher education, higher and degree apprenticeships, employment or further training. Specialist support is available for students applying to competitive courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Oxbridge.
